Hello July! We hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful summer!
Here are the Dapp.com's picks for the best dapp games came in the first half of 2019 that you absolutely have to play at some point.
We know we know, Steem Monster is not a new game and it has been around for a while – and so does its “unshakeable” No.1 game dapp ranking. We've been hearing good news from the team. Back in April, Steem Monster / “Splinterlands” partnered with SEEDGerminator, a crowdfunding platform that allows the game to raise funding from the Sesameseed and TRON community, certainly helped to bring awareness and users to the game from the TRON community.
Also, news came out early this year of the collaboration with Binance’s BNB token, so you can now purchase Steem Monster card pack with BNB. “Gaming is a not-so-small industry yet to be tokenized. Fast or slow, it will happen. And Binance is here to help in the process. Thanks to Steem Monster!”, said CZ, the CEO of Binance.
Crypto Sword & Magic is a turn-based 2D roleplaying game that raises heroes and challenges new dungeons. It came from Sword & Magic — a much-loved RPG game on Facebook with almost a million monthly users, and now player will be able to fully own all the in-game assets because of the blockchain.
As a very first blockbuster game on EOS, Crypto Sword & Magic finally released its open beta at the end of June and already has over 600 daily active users. It’s available on Android as well as on PC right now.
Dapper Labs, the maker of the CryptoKitties, is back this summer with their second Ethereum-based game - Cheeze Wizards. It is the world's first blockchain battle royale with cheese. Players can collect Wizards and send them to battle in one-on-one duels. The winner of the battle will gain a portion of the losing Wizard's power, and by summoning Wizards, players can increase the size of their cheese. The last and most powerful Wizard remaining in the tournament is the Big Cheeze, gaining the honor and ether that comes with the title.
The innovative concept and the sleek game design make this game stand out to us. And maybe more importantly, we love cheese, and magical hat (wink wink).
Not one but three car racing games (0xRacers, F1 Delta Time…) have been developed in the first half of 2019, one of them is quite special because of the VR feature.
Speaking of virtual reality, the first game dapp that comes to people’s mind must be Decentraland. As the pioneer of combining the two cutting-edge technologies, Decentraland has successfully built a virtual Genesis City and attracted hundreds of “citizens”.
Now, Battle Racers is looking to bring a fresh take to the existing game format, using blockchain and VR. Coming out this summer, Battle Racers is an arcade game where players can build, race, and battle model cars on arcade-sized tracks in Decentraland. It allows players to mix and match parts to create their own race car, then use its combat skills to beat other players to the finish line. The race cars and car parts are non-fungible tokens that are solely owned by the player.
Considering the limitless potential of the two technologies, we believe this game will definitely achieve higher in the future.
What would happen when characters from different games meet each other? Just weeks ago, the collaboration of two crypto collectible games that we like – CryptoKitties and Crypt-Oink – gave us a hint of how it would look like in the future. A “weird” but cute character was created, calling “Kitton”, which is essentially a Crypton with a CryptoKitty on its back. It owns the rare “Kitton” gene in the game CryptoKitties, at the same time, it can be trained and race in Crypt-Oink’s 3D racing game.
Although the collaboration does not technically achieve interoperability, which is the concept of allowing a player to bring an NFT from one game into a different game, and actually use it in some form or other, Crypto-Kitton does show us the possibility of making this happen.
Fyi, Crypt-Oink is releasing a new acing game with a Shiba-oink. A doggiepig, or a piggydog? Go check out their new game!
Who's the winning bidder of the year? (drum roll…) It’s F1® Delta Time! The car racing game had it’s first NFT “1-1-1” auction in this May and it sold for an impressive 419.5 ETH (worth roughly $100,000 at the time of sale). Also, we will be expecting to see more die-hard F1 fans joining this blockchain game from just watching live race game.
Most of the blockchain games have a pre-sale before the game launch. We asked people about “Is pre-sale a good strategy for the company and a good experience for gamers?” last week and all the answers that we’ve got so far are very different. Seems it’s a pretty debatable question and we’re hoping to hear more opinions from you!
Blockchain: Ethereum; TRON
Sometimes the simplest games prove to be the most addicting, we can see this from the huge success of the classic game Snake and Slither.io. Inspired by the snake concept, MixMarvel team, the creator of the hit game HyperDragons, launched their new project HyperSnakes early this year with the aim of making it a truly massive multiplayer real-time competitive game. The game is available both on Ethereum and the TRON blockchain. It is also one of the few TRON games that has over 2,000 daily active users.
There are thousands of blockchain betting games out there, contributing an extensive part of the dapp market. TRONbet as the first trustless, permission-less, and high-performance betting platform on the TRON network, is leading the way and has attracted thousands of loyal fans. It had a total transaction volume of 570 billion TRX in the past 6 months, and it maintains an average of 3,000+ daily active users, far ahead of all the other dapps, including DEXs.
Space, sometime in 2080, people on the earth are looking for a new livelihood – that storyline just never gets old. NextColony is a last-days space simulation with RPG elements and tradable collectibles built on the Steem blockchain. You will be able to explore undiscovered space, take the land, and start owning an entire planet. Also, you will have to battle for honor and resources and trade digital collectibles. The game went live in May and raised 100,000 STEEM just within two weeks.
Want to turn yourself into a pixel art avatar on the blockchain? pixEOS allows you to create your very own free custom avatar with different skin tones, hair, hats and more on their pixEOS avatar maker. It’s totally free and not to mention you can save your avatar to the EOS blockchain – it’s 100% yours! Have fun making your super fun avatar <3
The game came out last month and got the media buzz immediately. Unlike other lottery games, PoolTogeher is a lossless lottery game, or we can say it’s more like a saving game, very innovative and super useful. There are no losers in the game. You will be able to buy a “PoolTogether saving” ticket to earn interest on your own money and also you will have the chance to win the interest on other people’s money, Even if you don’t win, you can get all your money back, because the prize is funded by the interest accumulated from the money contributed to each pool. As long as you have some DAI and you’re good to go.
What will be the next PoolTogether game? A fishDAO game maybe?
In our latest Q2 Dapp Market Report, we observed that the total number of active game dapps in Q2 were 310 and those dapps generated $13,223,946 revenue. And active users were 184,243 and 119,470 were new users – more than half of them were new users and they joined the dapp game in Q2!
So, how the next six months are going to shape up the dapp world? We’re looking forward to seeing more new games as well as playing some long-awaited games (hi, Neon District, Ember Sword, and Fomo3D, any updates?)!
